| PAYE Legislation Changes |
|
Future legislation changes include:
- From 1st April 2009, statutory holidays increase to 5.6 weeks per annum, equal to 28 days for employees working five days a week. There will
be pro rata entitlement for part-time employees.
- From 5th April 2009, the standard rates of statutory maternity pay, statutory paternity pay and statutory adoption pay, starting on or after
Sunday 5th April, increase to £123.06 per week.
- From 6th April 2009, a repeal of the statutory dispute resolution procedures and related procedural unfairness in dismissal cases will go
ahead. Employment tribunals will also have discretionary powers to increase or decrease any awards made by up to 25%, where there has been a
breach of a relevant ACAS Code of Practice.
- From 6th April 2009, employees with parental responsibility for children up to the age of 16 will have the right to request flexible working.
- From 6th April 2009, amendments to the National Minimum Wage Act, which include a fairer method of calculating arrears for underpaid workers,
penalties for employers who do not pay their workers the minimum wage, new inspection powers for national minimum wage compliance officers and a
strengthening of the criminal regime for minimum wage offences will come into force.
- From 6th April 2009, a proposal to extend the right to time off for employees to perform public duties, including members of probation boards
and trusts, youth offender panel members, lay advisers assisting Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements, co-opted overview and scrutiny
committee members and certain roles in the housing sector will be put forward.
